I remember the frustration of a project gone wrong, the tearout on a perfectly good piece of walnut, and the confusion of deciphering dense, technical plans. But I also remember the profound satisfaction of that first successful dovetail joint, the smooth, buttery feel of a perfectly planed board, and the rich smell of freshly cut cedar. That feeling—the blend of challenge, learning, and immense pride in creating something with your own hands—is what hooked me.

My name is Alex Carter, and for as long as I can remember, the smell of freshly cut pine and the heft of a solid oak board have felt like home. I wasn’t born into a long line of woodworkers, but I might as well have been. My journey started in my grandfather’s garage, where he taught me a simple but profound lesson: “Measure twice, cut once, and respect the wood.”
That lesson stuck. For over 15 years, I’ve dedicated my life to the art and science of woodworking. I’ve gone from building wobbly birdhouses to crafting custom dining tables, restoring antique furniture, and designing functional, beautiful pieces meant to last for generations. I believe that in a world of disposable goods, woodworking is an act of permanence. It’s a way to create something real, something with soul.
